Laws and regulations
The rules themselves: who must be certified, what the certification types cover, recordkeeping, and the prohibitions. This is the most fact-dense Core territory and the easiest to score with study.
The figures that belong to this topic
- A technician is anyone whose work could reasonably be expected to violate the integrity of the refrigerant circuit.
- Leak-repair records are kept at least three years; per-service records apply to appliances with a full charge of 50 pounds or more of an ozone-depleting refrigerant.
- Persons who only dispose of small appliances, MVACs or MVAC-like appliances need no certification, and supervised registered apprentices are exempt.
- The regulation sets no expiration for technician certification, though it reserves EPA's right to require recertification later.

How to study it
Read the topic in your prep material once for structure, then drill it through the free practice questions, which cite the regulation paragraph behind every answer. On a closed-book exam the citations are your study tool, not your crutch: they teach you why the answer is what it is.
