Leak detection
Finding leaks and the thresholds that trigger obligations on larger appliances. The classification traps live here: which equipment class carries which threshold.
The figures that belong to this topic
- Leak rate thresholds for appliances with 50 lb or more of class I or class II refrigerant: 20 percent commercial refrigeration, 30 percent industrial process, 10 percent comfort cooling and other.
- Leak rate is annualized between charges or averaged over the previous 365 days, never a lifetime average.
- 125 percent of full charge leaked in a calendar year triggers a report to EPA.
How to study it
Read the topic in your prep material once for structure, then drill it through the free practice questions, which cite the regulation paragraph behind every answer. On a closed-book exam the citations are your study tool, not your crutch: they teach you why the answer is what it is.
